The port continues to post a steady increase in performance in Q2 and Q3 of 2022 in comparison to 2021 despite various supply chain disruptions, which have been experienced locally and globally this year.

A marginal increase has been recorded in the total cargo throughput, Container traffic, transshipment, and transit traffic.

In Q3 total throughput has risen by 1.5 % to record 8.18 million metric tons compared to 8.06 million recorded during the same period in 2021.

 Container traffic has also registered an increase to a record 361,324 TEUs, a 4.4 % increase from 346,135 recorded last year.

Last year, the port of Mombasa handled 34.55 million metric tons total throughput, registering a growth of 1.3 percent against 34.12 million metric tons in 2020.

This year, the port is projected to handle over 35million tons.

In container traffic, the port handled 1.43 million TEUs representing a robust growth of 5.6 percent over 2020 performance when 1.35 million TEUs were handled.
