Banana Field Day
The theme for the event is "integrating greening in agriculture value chains.
The County Government of Taita Taveta in partnership with banana value chain stakeholders have intensified preparations for the upcoming Banana field day event scheduled for November 24, 2022 at Maridadi farm in Musheghesheni village near KMTC, Taveta sub-county.
The theme for the event is "integrating greening in agriculture value chains".
Speaking at his office in Wundanyi during a planning meeting with stakeholders from the banana value chain led by Danida Market Development Partnership (DMDP) and Micro Enterprises Support Programme (MESP), Ag. County Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Irrigation Executive Committee Member Grantone Mwandawiro said the county government will continue supporting the green sector through allocating adequate funds to boost banana production, address perennial issue of floods and ensure projected co-funding towards completion of the stalled banana processing plant is met.
The event that targets 500 new farmers will see organisers emphasize on the importance to embrace organic farming after a survey revealed that out of the 2,000 contracted farmers in Taveta, 500 are into organic farming while 1,500 are into conventional farming.
According to Hon. Mwandawiro, this week's event is also part of the departments plans to propel the county from current second position in banana production in Kenya to best producers with variety of banana species.
The event will be graced by H.E Governor Andrew Mwadime as the chief guest.
